Screenshot Workflow with Hazel

Hazel is a all-purpose file moving tool for the Mac. It can move and rename files based on rules for a given folder. But it can do a lot more.

This is how I use Hazel to manage my screenshot workflow. I don’t like a bunch of files littering the desktop. This action sweeps them up and renames and resizes them for me.

Microsoft Pi

I’ve been thinking about this for the last day or so. Is having Windows on an embedded board something the world needs?

The announcement doesn’t have much in the way of specifics. It’s more of a landing page, with the focus being on signing up for the program, and getting “more details about our Windows 10 plans for IoT in the coming months.”

Writing Tools: Analog Edition

Most of my writing is done electronically. I have a combination of laptops, keyboards, and even keyboard computers. Even while those are my main source of input, they’re not always the first thing I turn to.

When I need to get something down now I reach for old-fashioned pen and paper. There’s no boot up/wake from sleep time, and it doesn’t require a password start using.1 It’s also non-modal. Meaning I can switch between words to pictures at will. This free-form creativeness can lead to the unexpected.

Word Count — Week 5

It’s time for my weekly word count check-in. At the end of every week, I post a screen shot from my writing results spreadsheet. This shows the current week and the three before. My week starts on Monday, the numbers are current through Sunday night.

Overall, I’m seeing a downward trend, and need to reverse it. I spent some of my writing time reading this week. I finished two novels, and started picking apart the writing style for future reference. I was happy with two personal history pieces I did (here and here). It was tough writing. I had to dig through old emotions to get the posts done.

Super Bowl XLIX Results

The Patriots tried very hard to lose this game. They played small ball for the first three quarters. Then in the fourth quarter when the panic set in, they started to actually get some air under the ball.

But…

Russel Wilson had flashes of brilliance, but even a few big plays couldn’t save the Seahawks. The final fail at the goal line sealed their fate.

Super Sunday

I’ve never had much in the way of traditions with sports. Having Super Bowl XLIX as a home town game hasn’t really changed this. I’ve avoided going downtown to the festivities. The whole affair seems too managed. It’s also crowded and can get expensive. Anytime the tourists come to town, prices go up.

I’m watching the game at home this year. I didn’t make any plans to go to a party or out to a bar. Part of the reason is I don’t have strong interest in the teams playing. It might get turned off if it looks like a blow-out. I don’t care about the ads either. They can be funny, but overall it’s still an ad. The best ones will get shared on Twitter, and I might take a look at them later.

Foggy Arizona

I’m not really sure what’s going on with the weather. This is odd.

Flash fiction—At the Shop

“Look lady—“

I was furious, “Don’t look lady me! You’ve had my car all day you can’t say what’s making that damn noise?”

The mechanic took a breath, “I’m saying I can’t duplicate it. I can’t fix something I can’t find.”

I looked at him. He had a rag in his right hand and a flashlight in the left. His name patch said “Walt.” He eyed me carefully. I had the feeling he was trying to get me to leave. It was almost closing time, everyone in the building wanted to be somewhere else. Including myself. “Seriously? You just don’t want start on at this hour.”
